What distinguishes microdermabrasion from other techniques?
A variety of abrasion techniques are used in cosmetic skin treatment. In principle, all these procedures aim to remove dead skin particles or unevenness and to refine the pores. The different peeling methods vary, for example, in the fineness and depth of removal, the degree of skin irritation and the use of chemical and other active ingredients.
Unlike many manual peeling methods, microdermabrasion allows a particularly gentle, skin-friendly and sterile treatment. The skin is not treated by hand with a scrub or sandpaper, but is polished in a controlled way with fine microcrystals using a special polishing device. A vacuum in the device immediately suctions off excess skin flakes. This ensures that skin particles, dirt and pollutants are removed without residue.
Different settings and a variable number of abrasion passes make an individual treatment possible that is precisely adapted to the needs of each client. In addition, no chemical additives are used in microdermabrasion. This method is therefore also suitable for people with dry or sensitive skin.
Microdermabrasion differs from the surgical procedure of macrodermabrasion mainly in the depth of abrasion. Since macrodermabrasion is used to treat scars, it puts much more strain on the skin. Certain scars, such as acne scars, can also be treated with microdermabrasion. However, the peeling only takes place on the surface, so the deeper skin layers are not injured. It is therefore possible that acne scars cannot be removed completely in individual cases.
Which skin problems does microdermabrasion help with?
Microdermabrasion works on two different levels. On the one hand, the skin is superficially removed and freed from impurities. On the other hand, the treatment has a regenerating, rejuvenating and firming effect on the cell structure of the skin. It can therefore be used against superficial skin problems as well as a natural anti-ageing method.
Microdermabrasion is suitable, among other things, for the following cases:
- Acne
- Acne scars
- Pigmentation disorders
- Unevenness
- Keratinisation
- General refinement of the complexion
Dermatologists make use of the anti-ageing effect of microdermabrasion for various applications. The treatment also has a firming and rejuvenating effect on the décolleté and facial skin. Fine lines around the mouth and eyes recede, and the face generally looks younger and fresher.
